Looking after your new baby

Having a baby is a stressful time and when the due date gets closer you have a lot to take care of ready for his or her arrival in your life. As a baby needs 24/7 care at first then you have to make sure you buy everything you need now, otherwise if you discover you need something at 2am when the baby is crying and you are stressed to the max, then you won’t be able to get it and that could cause problems. That means you need all the gear for changing their diaper, you need clothes, toys, and even something like a baby ear thermometer because if you think your baby has a temperature you need to check that out asap.

I think the best way to check you have everything you need is to speak to some new mums in your local area. They will be happy to tell you about all the things they wished they had after the birth, and the things they did buy which were used all the time. As an added incentive, if you do talk to new mothers then often you can buy some of their old gear at a bargain price. Unless they are planning to have more kids then all that expensive gear is just taking up room and they want to get rid of it, they could sell it in papers etc but that is a lot of work, so many people would be glad to let you buy some of it.

Something that often catches new mothers out is the amount of diapers they will need, babies can go through as many as 8 a day when they have just been born, so that catches people unprepared. If you are using reusable diapers then that means you need at least 2 or 3 days worth in order to get them washed and dried ready to be used again.
